Default Tools to rebuild NV3500 tranny?

I pulled my 3500 after losing reverse. I have a buddy who rebuilds big rig transmissions and he said he will help me rebuild this one.

He has been researching and found that there is a special tool required to get the shift rail apart but he can't find any info on a part number, picture of the tool, etc...

Anyone know anything about this?

I have to 2000 FSM. I checked the NV3500 Teardown section under special tools and saw this:

Remover/Installer, NV3500 Shift Rail Roll Pin—6858

or

Remover - 8117

Hope that helps

Cool, thanks for the part numbers!

The pics aren't working though.

Got it, thanks! I'll have to do some digging to find out where to get these. I found the first one for $25 online, but ic an only find the second one in a $250 kit.

You put the word "or" between those. Do I just need one or the other?

I haven't the need to do this as I currently have an automatic, but I did read the stating part of the tear down of the shift shaft and it made mention of using 8117 in taking a detent plug out. I don't know where 6858 is used as I didn't read too far into it but as the tool is named what it is I figured you'd probably need it somewhere in there.

Looks like both.

From the FSM "Unseat roll pin that secures shift socket to shift shaft with Special Tool 6858."

You can download the '00 FSM here:https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-download.html It has the NV3500 teardown/assembly instructions.

The file is compressed as a .rar file. You'll have to use a free utility (such as WinRAR) to convert it back to a PDF.

OK, so i found the 6858 tool online in a couple places, but I can't seem to find the 8117 anywhere. Anyone know a good place to get this?
