Default Hello I'm new to the forum

Hello everybody I'm new here. I own a 99 Durango 4x4 5.2l. with just under 200k miles. I would like some help with. my engine seems to have taking a turn for the worse with last oil change used some store brand oil and after 2k miles it came out like water with lots of sludge now rear main leaks and it burning oil. put new plugs in while changing the oil and did a comp test like always and the cylinders are all over the place. so I'm thinking its time for a long block build.

I would like some help with putting together the right package on a budget.
I will be mostly using it for DD some towing and off road.
I already have a hughes FI airgap intake and a full borla exhaust.
I'm looking at a long block that is bored .040" over everything is stock besides pistons and rings for about $2k. not sure if that's a good price. I'm going to be calling the shop and ask if they would be able to and how much it would cost to put a cam in and maybe deck it to bring up to comp. and maybe port the heads. any info on cam sizes that would work out good for me and any other parts I should look into would be great. I'm not looking to make a power house or anything just something with a little more and still okey on gas.

Wecome! I'd do a 5.9 long block rather than a 5.2. If you used injectors from a 5.9, I doubt the computer will know the difference.

I was thinking about doing a 5.9 swap but with the added price of it being a 5.9 brings the long block up to about $2400 to $2600 with stock bore. then I would need a 5.9 balancer and flexplate along with a 5.9 computer. as far as I can find out the 5.9 and 5.2 injectors are the same. I have been told that a 5.9 will run off the 5.2 computer but it would be held back.

if I were to go with the 5.9 what would I all need to do this I know about the harmonic balancer and flex plate but I'm also seeing that the converter may need to be also changed.
