Default What causes P0171/P0174 Lean Bank 1/2?

I ran this code at Advanced the other day. Does anyone know what could cause this? The only indications I have of a problem from the truck, besides the codes, is the idle fluctuating +/-200 RPM on start up and sometimes dying at idle when engine is still cold. The check engine light goes out every once in a while but is on most of the time.

A vacuum leak, clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump.

If the PCM multiplies short term compensation by long term adaptive and a certain percentage is exceeded for two trips, a freeze frame is stored, the MIL illuminates and a trouble code is stored. Two Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL

Real common codes with a MAF system and a vacuum leak.
I can't believe that Dodge still uses the outdated map sensor system. These trucks would gain more from CAI's, exhaust mods, cams and heads if they had a MAF to measure the extra airflow.

Default 1996 neon p0171

I keep getting a p0171 code (lean bank 1) on my 96 Neon. I've changed the air filter and the O2 sensor and I've checked for vacuum leaks, but the CEL keeps coming back on, giving me the same code. What else could it be?

If you don't visually seem a vacuum leak you can try spraying some carb cleaner around the top of the engine and listen for changes in rpm. Of course if ya have a scanner you can watch the short term fuel trims for changes when doing this. Lean Codes are usually an air leak in the intake portion of the engine. Rich codes are usually misfiring spark plugs or stuck injectors.

oh. Idle air could cause a lean code too... But, I am not sure if your engine has one.

I get codes p0171 p0174 and po157. On my 08 dodge 1500 sxt 3.7. I changed all 4 o2 sensors, spark plugs, air filter, map sensor. Cleaned the sensor in the intake box, then I found a tube coming from the air filter box goin to the back of the engine that was dry rotted and cracked. I changed the little hose and still am popping the codes???? IAC?? Maybe im gonna change it and ill let ya know what happens!
