Looks too easy to be true considering the shop charges $75 for it. Anyone have any tips or tricks for doing this on my 03 4.7 liter tomorrow? Any first-hand accounts of better idling, throttle response, etc???

 

Search....plenty of threads on the subject. Personally, I dont find the idea of pouring a liquid into my intake a good idea (hydrolock), but others do it all the time. Look on you tube for how-to videos. And be prepared to smoke your neighbors out.

 

Pouring it in the gas should be fine, but I wouldn't put it in the intake.

 

Why not in the intake? It is my understanding that the fuel rail and combustion chambers is where it has the most benefit.

 

when I worked at a gm dealer we did the service (was part of a tsb on the s-10) using what they call top engine clean (was re-branded seafoam), if you follow the directions it's great. I do every vehicle I own when I do a tune up. Since you do it while it's running, and pour slowly the risk is minimal, I have had it clear an egr code on an s-10 blazer (needed an egr and they were $400 was not a permanent fix)

 

Because you're risking hydrolocking your engine. I'll be honest with you, I've heard all kinds of success stories and people praising the stuff, but I've also heard just as many horror stories of people ruining their engines, or having other issues come up after using the stuff.

 

I never heard anyone damage an engine, and I was on a fwd car forum. Honestly if they hydrolocked it they had to of poured the stuff in with the engine off, or dumped the whole bottle down a throttle body (aka they didn't read directions)

 

Not to be a dick, but you haven't looked too hard then. Not just hydrolocking either, I've heard of people having knocks and ticks after using the stuff too. Pouring liquid in your engine just screams bad idea if you ask me. I'd just put it in the gas tank and let the fuel system do its job.

 

I've been doing it for over 25 years (probably done 1000 cars myself), and only when someone did it wrong did I hear of any issues, or the engine was already in bad shape (I heard one guy who got knocking after adding to oil, and driving like it says not to do) again if they can read and follow directions they shouldn't have problems.

 

i have used Marvel Mystery oil. for 30 years. in the gas but not crankcase. 4 oz in 10 gal. it will clean the fuel system. but not real fast. it might take 4-5 tanks. releasing a lot of dirt all at once is not a good idea. once i even over dosed the MMO a lot, with no trouble. check out this site. http://www.ampcolubes.com/
