Default Dealer Repair Cost Plenum Gasket

I was thinking of replacing my plenum gasket myself, but my health is not the best so was just wondering if anyone knows what the dealer might charge to replace the gasket? I can do the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, etc., but looks like too much for me to handle to do the gasket and even the cat replacement. Sorry my truck is a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport w/5.9L MAG engine.

8 to 10 hours labor, at whatever the dealer is charging these days. (which around here, is north of 100 bucks an hour....) Plus parts..... you will have to provide the plenum plate, if they will even put it on..... else, they will just change the gasket, leaving you with the same problem in a couple years.

Thanks, I kind of thought it would be really high for the labor. Perhaps I will give it a go to do myself. Who knows, might even be able to come out ahead a little. Thanks again.

It's just a labor intensive job. The hardest part physically from what I remember was having to climb up in the truck to yank the intake loose.

Where to do you live? There might be some willing members to help you out if you ask polity and might only cost you a case of beer.

An independent shop will be less expensive. I got mine done for about 350.00 labor @4 hrs. supplied the new plenum plate and gaskets, etc. For a little extra they did a new waterpump and timing chain, added 1.5 hrs. 8am to 2.30 pm total time. I don't think it was his first one.

The last one I did took me about 4 hours total - but it was in a Dakota - a lot easier to reach where you need to.

This was for a golf buddy who had to keep me in pizza and beer. I'd bet you could host a BBQ with a keg and find plenty of help...

to bad ur not closer man, i can do the whole thing in 2 hrs. i have pulled it all like 2-3 times on 2 different trucks so a total of like 5-6 times. the biggest shortcut is to just leave everything bolted to the accesory brakcet and take the bracket off with everything on it, and just set it off to the side. remember to unhook the wires to everything though :P then i leave the fuel rail attached to the injectors and just pull them up all together, when u put them back though make sure to put some vasoline jelly or something on the o-rings so u dont tear them going back in. remove the throttle linkage and set it aside, then just unbolt the intake with the throttle body and all attached. make sure you have a new water bypass hose though cuz u prob wont get the original off, just cut it and then take the intake off. then reverse ur steps
