Default Ticking noise from 5.7 Hemi

I have always heard a ticking noise coming from the engine bay area. I purchased a set of headers and installed and because I was told that the exhaust manifolds were warped. I took truck into dealership and they said it was from my headers. I believe the sound is coming from the bellhousing because I have heard teeth grinding when starting.

Sounds like "Hemi tick". Do a search on here on it and you'll find a ton of info. If that's what it is, I've never heard anybody attribute it to headers/manifolds. Any grinding sound would be something completely different and not at all normal.

Mine only ticks when extremely cold. It is gone after about 5-10 minutes of driving though. Sounds almost like piston slap or something.

I think its most likey a "hemi tick" but mines all the time. Have you changed to a different oil? Or changed what gas your using? Maybe you can try an oil additive like Lucas Motor oil might help!

You need to use a lighter weight oil, your truck does not call for 10w-40 even though it's synthetic. I have a 2003 hemi and was useing 10w-30 when I also heard the ticking, so I switched to 5w-30 and amazingly the ticking vanished!!! I believe your's must be ticking loud with 10w-40. What made you use 10w-40?

My 2003 hemi has that ticking sound to. When I start cruising on the highway I hear that ticking sound. I use 5w30 oil and still hear the ticking. I can live with it. dave

Yes change to Royle Purple, Redline or Amsoil. If it still is there then consider putting in 5w-20 instead of 5w-30.

Hope it helps!
