2 parts MotorCraft 5w20 semi with one part QS 5w30 synthetic.
this yields a 5w23 oil, just slightly more robust that a 20 weight, but still with good cold flow properties.

Used to run Royal Purple, too expensive to continue, switched to Mobil 1. For a savings of almost $47 for a 6pack it was a non brainer. Mobil 1 is an excellent oil.

ANY SM 5Wxx conventional oil now is a group II, even Bozo the Clown Brand, which is way better than any oil of 15 years ago. As for synthetics, manufacturers have learned the can use Group III oils and call them "synthetic", when strictly speaking they are not PAO oils. BUT...group III oils PERFORM exactly as well as PAO's do. So for my money, knowing what I do, I'll take ANY oil on sale, as long as it says SM on it. The synthetic Mobil of Old, was a PAO oil. Now it may have a tiny bit of PAO in it, but it too is mainly group III, in order for CEO to rake in billions of profits. So there is NO REASON to buy Mobil 1, other than to waste ur money. Any Pennz, QS, Valvoline synthetic is exactly just as good as Mobil 1, even SuperTech synthetic is a fine group III that many people use for years, with excellent engine results. Don't waste ur time on Castrol, it too suffers from "CEO needs large bonus syndrome" - its oil, even "edge", is just marketing and promotion. I run synthetic in winter due to better cold properties, and 50:50 synth and conventional in summer, to save a bit of money.

so riddle me this... why do my oil analysis come back better with mobile 1 than valvoline or castrol? if they are all the same, shouldnt they all come back close to the same?
I'm running Valvoline 10W40 in the Dak and the Escort. I ran Castrol Syntec 20W50 in the Z until I sold it last month. Ericemery, where do you send the oil for analysis? I'm curious on this.
I only run German Castrol (Castrol Syntec 0w30 European Formula) in any of my vehicles. Best oil out there. See the discussions about it on bobistheoilguy.com forums.
