Well I filled up with 91 and it didn't fix it and with these prices, I can't afford to pay for 91 gas.

So I am selling it. New post to follow...

Ghost, did you try setting it to stock? I see you have, in your selling thread. I'm sorry the octane didn't fix it for you. The reason I was leaning towards pre-detonation is due to the more aggressive tuning brought on my the tuner. If you hadn't just started using the tuner I would have said bad gas, but the timing of the tuner and the pinging suggest pre-det to me. If you decide to keep it, go colder spark plugs and you should be fine.

Good luck man.

Maybe you're carboned up. Used to rear it's head every summer with my old Ford.

octane boost is just a hoax, pour some rubbing alcohol in your tank for the same affect. If your pinging on 87, you have a timing issue.
Run a full fresh tank of 93, and I will guarantee your issue is removed. Either your truck is running hot, and the 87 is pre detonating like mentioned, and the higher gas will eliminate this, or your running into a tps issue.

Run the higher premium, espcially if your running the 93 tune on 87 gas, the tune is adjusting your timing.

maybe on the tips of his plugs if he is running a colder plug or changed his gap. On a FI motor, this is explained by running adjusted timing, with a octane level that doesn't equal the detonation pattern.

That is exactly what I was thinking as the ping occured after loading the aggressive tune. I think he sold the tuner though.

The knock sensors in these trucks are really quite sensitive to detonation. If everything is functioning properly, they should retard the timing way before you notice knocking. I think there might be another issue here. Is everything back to normaal after pulling the tuner??

Ghost, I'm sorry the tuner didn't work out for you. If you try it again try the colder plugs and you should be fine.
