how to gain rear articulation?

Lift blocks won't help in any way with articulation, all they do is push the axle away from the springs.
Longer shackles won't neccessarily help either. If the factory shackle is long enough to allow the spring to lay out flat, making it longer won't do anything... especially if the shackle is aimed upward (I assume its like that on the 3rd gens too?)
The best thing to do is to do a shackle flip and get slightly longer shackles. That actually will give you more articulation because it will increase the downflex (theres not much you can do to increase upflex!)
Keep this in mind though... doing a shackle flip will change your pinion angle, and push the axle forward in the wheel well (depending on how low the spring eye ends up). The pinion angle needs to be corrected... relocating the axle back isn't as important, but it might look stupid if you drop the spring eye down too low.
