Gas Tank Capacity

Gas Tank Capacity
Hi,
I'm new here, and already found several answers to long annoying questions. One thing that has always bugged me is the gas tank capacity. I have a 2005, 4x4, 4 Door, with the V8. Everything I've read says the tank should be 22 gallons. I can only ever get maybe 19.8 in it, even when I've run out of gas. Has anyone else noticed this? I would have loved to had that extra 2 gallons of capacity a couple of times.
Thanks,
James

Welcome to the forum! These trucks are notorious for issues when filling the tank. I dont think I've ever got more than 20 gallons in even with the gauge on empty. Maybe there is a hidden "reserve" somewhere...lol...Dodge maybe stretched the capacity a little to meet some epa mileage standard or something like that...imo

I would be very suprised if a tank advertised as 22 gallons held less. I would be even more suprised if that same 22 gallon tank took 22 gallons after running out of fuel. With a conventional fuel pump (not a sump style system that feeds from the bottom of the tank). the fuel pickup is above the bottom of the tank. Think of siphoning water with a hose that won't quite reach the bottom of the container; there's always some water left after you lose the prime.
