Question How to tell if truck has limited slip diff?

Just bought a 2007 SLT Dakota quad cab with the V8 auto trans.

Is there a way to tell if it has limited slip other than removing the cover. From what I have seen most are open diffs.

Thanks

Jack up the rear end, put it in neutral, and spin a tire by hand. If the tire on the other side turns the same direction, you have limited-slip. If it turns the opposite direction, you don't.

Thats the quickest way to tell. Floor jack under the pumpkin. IN about 5 minutes you'll know.

Yea I had planned on doing that and seeing if there were any build sheets on/in the truck.

But got 6" of snow and backyard is a mud puddle. Parts start coming in tomorrow so hopefully the snow will be melted by this weekend so I can start to get it back in great shape.

My first Dakota had the lovely odour of smoke and old, wet dog whenever the sun beat in. I went to Canadian Tire and bought a Bomb just for that purpose. Start truck, close windows, turn AC on full blast with full fan, (this is important) from outside the truck, open the door, pop the can and shut the door. (you are outside! very important!) Let is run for 15 minutes (I think, instructions are on the can) then open the windows with everything still running. Smell gone, at least for me.

I hope that the 6" of snow doesn't kill you! If you step off the trail around here, you go to your hip! And it might be June before the ice is out of the lakes!

The other way to tell, without getting out of the truck, is to put your foot into it - one black line, open diff, two black lines, LSD!
