Truck won't go forward
Yesterday my son was at a stop light and when the light turned green he started to take off and said he heard a loud bang and then the truck wouldn't go forward.
He got it off to the side of the road and the truck will go into reverse fine, but in drive it will just inch forward.
So we had the truck towed to the house and I get my engine scanner out and I am getting the following error codes: PO731 and PO732 which comes back to "
I am thinking that since my son heard a bang, that it's more than a low fluid or shift solenoid issue.
Anybody have any ideas what I might expect to pay for repairs? I won't know what the problem is until I can get it into the shop tomorrow.
Thanks in advance.

If you do have to spend the money to have it rebuilt or have to buy a rebuilt tranny, Spend the money and get good parts and replace all of it. Most places that rebuild transmissions will only replace bad or broken parts. The last tranny I had rebuilt, I bought top name, aftermarket parts, I replaced everything possible. Made the tranny bullet proof. It cost money but you get what you pay for. You don't want to spend money to replace a few things and a month later having to do it all again to replace parts that didn't get replaced.

Thanks everyone for the input.
Jkeaton, from the research that I've done, it sounds like a rebuild is in order.
djbcky3, when you put the truck in drive it will inch forward while revving the engine from what I've read this is because the truck thinks it's in 3rd gear. From what I can tell it's not in limp mode.
dieselpower32x, that's a great advice thank you. I am going to start looking online for a pre-built tranny that's got all the after market parts installed.
Once again thanks.

about 4 years ago when I was in town a guy walked up to me shook my hand and introduced himself. He handed my his business card for a local transmission shop - said he noticed I drove a Dodge. LOL.
Hope you get it fixed for a good price keithhud. I'm sure I'll be needing that guy sooner or later.

Jaded, that's too funny.
Yeah this is my third Dakota and the last two of them have had Tranny issues.
I am going to try and reset the codes tonight and see if they come back right away. My son located a shop that will charge me $80 to run a diagnostic on it and also gave some options for repairing it if needed.
I like dieselpower32x suggestion to go with aftermarket parts to beef it up.
