Default 4wd problem?

Hello again with a new problem.
For the last few months when ever I turned off my 4wd a few hundred feet down the road while driving my truck would give give one sudden shake like a hit a nice sized bump. And just over the weekend I went to go use it up a snowy hill, it makes this clank/clunk noise when going straight (haven't tried on turns yet). And when I turned it off it went a way. But when I was coming home last night I noticed that even in 2wd when just traveling at idle speed I can sort of hear the slight clink/clunk but not as bad. Im going out to buy my own jack and stands today to get a better look under there. What should I be looking for?
Thanks

I gotta get my car inspected and it needs a whole lot of work, tie rod, ball joints, back brakes adjusted, wipers, tires. I just wanna knock off most of what I can do myself to make this all around cheaper for me.

Had time to take a closer look and found out the drive shaft CV joint boot is missing and looks like for a while and just now I'm feeling/hearing the effect. I just gotta change the joint and reinstall.

Thanks
