Default 5.7 Hemi Swap!!!! 2005 DAK

i have picked up a 2010 hemi from a ram 1500. got the computer, wire harness plus the front accesories.

It is still going to be awhile before i can start to take things apart and get to town on this project. but i was wondering if the if the clutch and flywheel will be able to swap over from the 4.7. if not (which is what i am thinking), which one will work? which also leads to the crankshaft. will that have to be changed too. do to pilot bearing?

figures. for some reason. i can't load the picture from photobucket. if you want to see, i'm CarlBC on photobucket.

The nv3500 should be able to bolt up. You will need a new clutch and flywheel tho for sure. Gotta remember the stock 4.7's put out around 230hp/300 ft.lb where the newer 5.7 puts out almost 400hp/400ft.lb... The stock clutch will never handle that now on to the next question will the nv3500 be able to handle it also? well that is another thing. If you arent constantly hot roding, it will prob hold up but moderate abuse will most likely lead to ripping teeth off the gears or snapping the input. If it were me and I was already spending the money on the swap id prob just go with the nv4500 which was more than enough behind the diesels so would be fine with the 5.7..

Another thing to look at is the axles too much power can lead you to exploding them. How much power? that I dont know for sure but its hard to put a motor in a truck that wasnt designed for that much power so you might run into some issues.. Might be easier just to put the dakota body on the ram chassis lol

you're right about the flywheel and clutch ramguy. 4.7 is only 6 bolt pattern, where the hemi is an 8 bolt pattern on the crank. i finally found that out for sure last night. as for the the nv3500, still looking into that one. i've been half assed looking to see what it would take to either beef up the nv3500 vs. getting a nv4500. hell i've also been looking at 6sp trannies too. like the getrag 238.

nv4500 were also behind the cummins so it would take the abuse.. Only thing about them is they were too big for the trans tunnel so you needed a body lift.. I also believe they were behind the hemi in the 3/4's and 1 tons during the early 3rd gen rams then after that they went to the 238... Something to look into also..

I think by the time you beef up the 3500 your going to have more into than a 4500 but then again if your going with a used tranny might as well have it freshened up before you install it

Why not just buy a RAM? Way simpler and less headaches

Company’s Love people that want to stand out in a crowd they make their big money on them and sell to them especially cars. We’ve been brainwashed to want to stand out be special go beyond normal because we are special so go spend your money sucker. Just got to have that new Phone or tablet even though we don’t need it but I’m special I deserve it.

If its the challenge then great I'm in for that.

Yep cause I drive and 02 ram with 160k as I type this on my 2 year old iPhone 5s. What the difference of spending a little money doing this or spending the same amount buying a newer ram????? That's not even a new one

hmmmm.... buy a new truck or play with the toys i already have. even if it was just a base model. you are looking at 26k, no extras with a v6. or 5k (ruff guess) i can have a custom truck that i can say, I put that together! plus it gives a good sense of pride when everyone else keeps googling over your toys wishing they did that too. just my opinion though.
