Default Is this wheel bearing noise?

I have started hearing a sort of howling noise, not unlike tire noise that comes on around 35+mph. It was inspection time so asked the mechanic to look into it. He drove it but couldn't say for sure. He rotated the tires and says no difference. Hints at the front wheel bearings. I have 93000 miles on the truck (08, 4.7). Any experience with this? Is this the mileage when they go. Haven't had to replace bearings in ages.

Jack it up and spin the tire slowly to listen for unusual sounds.

wheel bearing will howl constantly when they are on their way out, rule of thumb, change booth and be safe.

For the record, it was the bearings. Bearings used to cost a few dollars. Now, the whole hub has to go. Turned out to be an $800 job, for both sides.

I am not surprised. Here is the break down:

Left hub bearing: $269.58
Labor:$126

RockAuto lists hubs priced anywhere from $49 to $169. I am not at all sure I would have ordered the right part. I'll be curious what their markup was.
