To change tranny fluid or to not?
Hello,
I have 170,000 miles on my '05 Dakota and have never had a tranny fluid REFRESH/Change done. The fluid has lost some color and slightly smells burnt, but nothing serious.
Shifting is smooth most of the time. Sometimes going from R to D, it slams hard. It can also take a while to start moving the vehicle when cold - hitting the gas doesn't amount to much movement if you try to move right after starting.
What are others doing in regards to Tranny fluid exchanges? I'm not interested in doing a flush after hearing many stories about high mileage vehicles not working well after a flush. However, I think a fluid exchange might be in order and low risk. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
