The new Durango has about 3500 miles on it and the change oil message has not come on yet. In my 1500 it came on after 2500 miles, I spoke to my dealer they said dodge changed their recommendation to 8000 on the newer vehicles but they still recommend every 3-5 thousand, truck is only 2 months old. When have y'all done the first change?

I went 6800 miles for my first.

 

I like to change the first one at 3,000 and the second at the same, from then on every 5,000 mi.

 

If you have FREE oil changes, then every 3 mos/3,000 miles. If you are paying out of pocket, the oil change message will come on at 7500 miles.

Do not exceed the 6month/8000 mile interval.

 

I follow this same procedure

 

First one on the Durango R/T was at 2,100 miles and from then on it will be 6 months or 3,000 miles with Mobil 1. Same thing for my Plum Crazy Challenger R/T. I know it's a waste of money, but it makes me feel good.

The light coming on is based on a number of inputs from the various computer modules on the vehicle and does not take into account time. Whatever you decide as far as the interval you want to change your oil and filter, it should not exceed 6 months or 8,000 miles even if the oil change light does not come on.
