Default 2014 Durango or 2014 Grand Cherokee? HELP!

Hey all,

I am definitely new here to Dodge Forum but not new to the Mopar world. I previously owned a 2005 Magnum RT that I miss dearly and looking to get back into the Mopar game. I'm in the market for a new SUV/lux sedan and am not sure which way to go! I can't find too much specific information on the 2014 Durango so I'm wondering if anyone here does.

My picks are between a 2014 Durango RT and 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited w/ 5.7 Hemi. What are the pro's and con's of each? I know the GC will be great for light to medium offroading - but I'm not too worried about that because I will be picking up an Unlimited JK soon for my offroading adventures (massive offroader with previously owned FJ that was BUILT and currently owning a 2003 built TJ that I will be selling). However what's huge on my list is comfort and luxury (was previously looking at a Mercedes E63 but decided to look at cheaper cars with the addition of a new baby in the next year or two).

I love the looks of the 2014 Durango and the 7 seats (which look comfy as hell!) but the shortcoming of specifics is making the decision harder. I'm heading out in the next few days to look at the 2014 GC.

Does anyone know when the 2014 Durango will be in showrooms? And if they have ever or will ever offer a pano roof? That's a huge selling point for me with the GC. Other then that it seems the GC and Durango share much of the same in amenities.

I am leaning towards the 2WD Durango RT versus the 4x4 GC just because I will have a well built JK within the next year.

Looking for any advise!

If the Durango has a pano roof, it's a no brainer.

I am leaning towards the Jeep SRT8 even though I had the first generation and the second generation Durango.

The SRT8 GC is a nice ride...a bit out of my range though!

I went to the dealership yesterday and test drove the 2013 Durango and the 2014 GC. I gotta say, I love the Durango...and with the changes it'll be seeing in 2014 (new media center, 8 spd, and change in looks) I'm leaning hard towards the 14 Durango RT. Can't wait to see some 14's! My dealer said that they think they'll be able to start placing special orders in the next couple weeks.

Careful what you wish for the new Media center is wreaking havoc on the 14 JGC and the new Rams. Apparently the media center actually controls most everything in the truck. Some are running into problems with security lockout and shut downs.
Give the new models a chance to work out the bugs. I am sure it's just software updates.

I would go with the rango, I looked into both as well last year and just preferred the ran go in everyway... good luck!

The pictures alone should gvie you the answer you need, rango way sexier than the GC. Also added bonus of 7 seater if you need the capacity with family.

I was in a similar position. I went into the dealer with the intent on getting a '13 Overland. Drove the '13 RT and '13 Overland back to back, and preferred the sportier ride of the RT. Also, the $3500 incentive on the RT, and the fact that an RT can be optioned to match an Overland didn't hurt either. I did really like the big sunroof, wish that was an option on the Durango. The GC is great, but I'm 100% happy with the Durango! Can't go wrong with either one, in my opinion.

I prefer the GC because of the weird rear 1/4 window of the durango. Also the 3rd row on the rango was not comfortable at all for anyone except 3 yr olds....JMO. The R/T does have a nice ride sporty wise...but the Gc can be optioned with nicer leather, leather on the dash, pano roof, air suspension etc. Really interior wise....the GC is much nicer. It all really comes down to personal preference really. If you wanna research the GC... try www.jeepgarage.org

I needed the extra space/seats, so I got the Durango. If you don't need more than 5 seats and you like the appearance of both SUVs equally, go with the Jeep.

I have to disagree with the comment above about the 3rd row seating in the Durango. It seems pretty comfortable to me. I'm 5'-10". Most reviewers are pleasantly surprised with the 3rd row seating room compared to other SUVs in this class.
