Default 2013 R/T or 2014 R/T

New here and just looking for some input. I currently own a lifted 2012 jeep wrangler that's fun to drive, but killing me on gas; averaging about 14.4 mpg with mainly highway driving to and from work. I know the hemi isn't spectacular on gas, but I know it's better than 14.4 on the highway, so I'm going to pull the trigger on an R/T, but still not sure what year. I see a lot of used 2013's with low miles and priced in the low 30's, which is in my ballpark, but I really like the interior and new lights on the '14, so I'm having a tough time deciding. I don't really want to spend $40k on a new '14, especially knowing it'll be worth 15% less in 6 months, but I also don't want to regret buying a '13. Anyone in a similar situation or have been? Is the 2014 really worth it? Thanks for any input or help!

If I were shopping now, I'd get the 2014 as it is new. Dealer in Danville KY discounts them at least 6K. If I did go for a 2013 (which I have and love by the way) I'd get one with some miles on it. When I see a previous model year with extremely low miles it's a flag for me that the owner either had problems, didn't like it and dumped it, or that it might have been in a wreck and spent some time in a body shop.

Buy the 13!!!!!!!

If lights are what you are after then you need to find a way to justify 10K more just for that.

I am getting 21+MPG on the highway at 74MPH. I was crazed at first when I bought my 13 and then seen the 14 with the fancy but not needed lights and stereo. Then I thought about it and now started to customize mine the way I like.

Personally, I would buy the 13 and then sink the "extra" 10K into her with things you want, like and need.

To me it would come down to the monthly payment difference between the 2 more than anything, especially with the special financing offers on new ones, if there are any.

Thanks for the input. The eight speed transmission seems to be nice, but probably something else that's not really necessary or a deal breaker. I know when a refresh comes out everyone is quick to trade in or jump on the wagon, so that's why I was looking for some feedback before I pull the trigger.

3.99 from chrysler capital is all they're offering, but I can get 2% from my credit union. Payment for '14 would be about $600 and payment for '13 would be about $450.

I bought my 2014 R/T less than a week ago, Chrysler financing gave me 2.3%. They started at 2.66 and I told them State Farm would give 2.19 so they dropped it a 1/4 point. Do the 2014. the 8 speed, the large touchscreen and other refinements made the difference worth it to me. I negotiated mine down pretty good, others on here have done even better than me. It is not 10k between the 2014 and 2013 unless you are buying a used 2013. You should be able to negotiate the 2014 to within 2,500 - 3,500 of the best deal on a 2013. Dodge tried hard to not bump the price on the 14, the only real difference should be the incentives. Again, I think it's worth it.

You could sit back and wait 6 months for a like new but used 2014. That was my angst, but my trade would have slipped to over 100k in 6 months so I felt I couldn't wait.

Thought about this too, but I'd really like something asap, so it's a tough decision. Time flies and I know if I buy a '13 now, in 6 months I may regret it. My wrangler should hold it's value, so it may make sense to pay it down even more that way I have some equity. Tough call.

I bought a highly discounted '13 in August. I could've waited a couple months for the '14, but it would have been thousands more. The improvements weren't worth it for me. The transmission in the '13 is fine. Sure the 8-speed is a little smoother and acceleration a few tenths quicker, but my family will never notice those things in everyday around town driving. The things that really count for everyday driving (economy, comfort, handling etc.) haven't really changed for '14.

By the way, I have a pet peeve when everyone says the 8.4" screen is "so much bigger." It's really not when you consider the buttons are permanently moved onto the 8.4" screen whereas on the 430n they're off the screen. So the usable screen area you have for navigation or music is not really much bigger at all for '14.

PLUS, the big thing you lose for '14 is the 28 gig hard drive and standard CD drive (if I'm not mistaken). Those are deal breakers for me. I have a few thousand songs permanently in my Durango - that's a huge convenience.

P.S. On occaision I somewhat regret not having the 8-speed, but overall I do NOT regret getting the '13 for thousands less.

P.S.S. There are still NEW '13s on the lots out there if you look around.
