Default Dodge Mechanics: Oil capacity for 2014. 5.7

Takes 7 quarts just to reach the tip of the dipstick
7.5 to reach the edge or bottom of ADD line
8 to fill to just full on dipstick

Book says 7 quarts

Oil pan is stock and nothing has been done to it, yes it's on a level surface. We've had threads where the varying oil capacity has been discussed but if it needs 8 quarts, why doesn't dodge say so and change the book?

Sounds like they're not counting the oil in the filter.

They don't want to reprint... The big oil thread of 2013 aka " the fiasco" made me realize that oil threads are asinine!! But draining my oil over a large period of time using different jacking points and still having oil dripping out at 7.5 quarts leads me to one conclusion. Oil hides in the MDS servos and valleys and as pressure bleeds down or lift angles are achieved that there is more oil left in the engine and in fact there is " at least 7.5 quarts" in our system. This in my opinion is why some people get 7 quarts at full mark and others it takes more depending on both shutdown temps and MDS operation immediately preceding shutdown.( my theory)

I've changed mine hot and cold. I've changed it 4 times since buying it and it doesn't change for me...8 quarts if I want it past the add line.

I have polled this question to one of the high level mechanics I know and am awaiting his answer.

Are all the 5.7L Hemi's the same on the amount of oil? My 2012 D book says 7 qts also.

I've been putting 7.5 quarts in mine and it's going all the way up to the top of the dipstick when I do. For me, 8 quarts would be way too much.

1st vehicle I've ever owned, and I've owned over 20, that the manufacturer didn't know what the heck the correct oil amount was....

Mechanic friend states that with normal draining time(LOL) it's 7 qts. He said biggest mistake ever is when you stop for fuel on long trip and check oil dipstick appears to be low, but all oil hasnt settled to bottom of pan yet.
He said no more than 7.5 with letting it have extended drain times
