2012 Durango Seat Belt Issue
I have a 2012 Durango Crew AWD. The passenger seatbelt will lock up, as in a crash or hard breaking, for no apparent reason. Local dealership is stumped. It happens more and more frequently. Does not correspond to any braking or maneuvering. Can happen in reverse on backing out of drive way, to doing it while on the highway.
After the lock up, passenger must remove seatbelt and let it go all the way back into holder and then you can put it on again.
Dodge Customer Care is now involved, but so far nothing.
Anyone having this issue or think of answer. Dealer has replaced seatbelt itself twice with no luck. Is reluctant to replace any sensors that are telling seatbelt to lock or tighten, as in crash.

I'm not sure if the mechanism in the new Durango is old school tech or electronic. On older style seatbelts there was a pendulum that would swing to lock the seat belt when there was abrupt motion either forward or rearward. It wasn't common, but it was possible for the axle for the pendulum to get dirty which could cause it to stick.
When the dealer replaced the seatbelt were they replacing the retractor mechanism as well?
