Default 5.7 Oil Change Question

Hi All,

Just did my first oil change on the R/T. My specs say its a 7Qt capacity. I put in 7 and the oil was juuust touching the bottom of the dipstick. (after warming up and sitting for a while) Any ideas as to why this would be? It's got the oil cooler, is that where the discrepancy lies?

Just curious really, anyone else see this?

You have to check the oil cold. If you just filled it with oil when you were checking the dipstick it could still have been draining down from the crankcase. Was the D up on ramps or blocks, or was it level?

Nope, level and cold. Odd, right?

I wouldn't worry to much about how much I did or did not put in - make sure you add enough to make the dipstick level correct

Default 5.7 Oil Change Question

I used Mobile 1. I used it in my last vehicle every single time from the very first change. Sold it recently with 204,000 miles still running strong used oil at changes was still carmel color.

Default wrong dipstick?

From a buddy on the other forum:

TSB 09-010-15:
SUBJECT:
Incorrect 5.7L Engine Oil Dipstick
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing the correct engine oil indicator (Dipstick).

The customer may notice blue smoke coming from the tail pipe after the vehicle was
started. Also after performing an oil change the Dipstick may indicate the oil was low.
When changing the oil and filter, service information shows 7 quarts / 6.6 liters are
required. After installing 7 quarts / 6.6 liters the Dipstick may indicate the engine oil level is
1 quart / .95 liters low.
applies to 2014 and 2015 5.7L, built on or before June 2, 2015. Correct part number is 53034186AD

This would also apply to any that had the blue smoke on start up tsb performed, but before they created the new dipstick. There was a period there where they installed a new oil pan to correct the blue smoke problem, but then realized the dipstick was incorrect.
