Default Starting issue, but not TIPM?

So here's a fun one. We started having issues with our 13 RT not starting. It was very hit and miss and when it did start, it was fine. We did have the fuel pump relay installed about 6 months ago. Took it into the dealer (of course with 51k on it we have to hope it's powertrain). They say it's a fuel pump overlay and that's not under the powertrain warranty and want $532 to fix... *sigh* I don't even know what is. Will have to google that one.

Anyone have any idea about what that is or how difficult it would be to replace myself?

All of my searching (which isn't coming up with much) keeps coming back to the TIPM/Fuel Pump recall... It almost sounds like it should be part of that. Dealer, of course says they don't find any recalls for my truck. But like doctors, they'd strongly prefer to get the customer to pay rather than insurance (easier and more money).

Maybe I need to contact Dodge directly to see if I can figure that part out?

Hi jsawhite,

You can enter your VIN here to see if there are any recalls on your vehicle: recalls.mopar.com. If you would like me to follow up with your dealership for you just send a PM to our page with your VIN and contact information. Let me know if you have any additional questions!

It shows all the recalls done on the truck (we had the fuel pump relay done in April). Figures... Interestingly, all my searching on this overlay seem to keep coming back to the TIPM recall, but *shrug*

Sucks, as I really like this truck... I guess if it's not under power warranty and not the recall at least I can at least shop around to try to find a cheaper place to get the fix done... I'll just pay the $98 diag fee and go pick it up tonight.

I've seen the ASD relay ckt fail even after the fuel pump relay recall was done. It will produce the same symptoms. No fire or fuel instead of just no fuel.

So just picked it up from the dealership (and paid my $98 diag fee which went to 104.86 after tax and shop fees), and they originally just gave me a piece of paper that said $530 (hand written) to fix and nothing more. I asked for at least a breakdown of parts vs labor... They had to get a manager for that part (and make me wait another 10 minutes). Looking at the 2 sentences that list out parts and labor (no part numbers) it says this:

Internal Failure in TIPM. Needs Fuel Pump Overlay. Relay Harness $42, Labor $430, Miscellaneous $25, Tax & shop fees to $532 out the door.

now is it just me or does this sound remarkably like the TIPM recall they did before? hmmm... And I already have the fuel pump relay so is another one required? How is this not part of the recall that obviously didn't work?

Maybe I'll try to replace the relay myself first and see it could be that simple. probably not. Disappointing none the less...

How the hell can they quote you an overlay when the recall was done in April???

^ that ^

Exactly what I was thinking. All the dealership said was there were no open recalls on the truck and this was the fix...

This is why I wasn't going to just blindly pay for it. I wonder if they have to report these types of issues back to Dodge? Probably not...

Well, if it is, in fact a relay failure just replace the relay. I can't see any other part of the overlay failing. Go to another dealer if you can but PM DodgeCares first.

You are not alone. Does this sound like your problem?

Mine will go for months without stalling and then does it again for a while.

When it stalls, cycle the start button to "off". Then it ill restart with no problem (in my case).
