"Help" My Fuel Door won't open
2015 RT...Did a search on this issue and didn't find anything. The fuel door seems to have a problem opening. When I push the inside button, I can hear the actuator working, but the door won't open. After applying a little pressure on it while adjusting it's position from the outside, it finally opened. The fuel door seems rather loose and I have noticed this becoming more obvious recently. Almost seems like it needs to be somehow tightened up. Anyone have a fix for this issue. Thx.
BTW... has anyone ever removed the fuel door? It feels like there is a lever inside the door on the left that might release it. I might be able to make an adjustment if i can remove it.

As one of the other posters said, it looks like you're still within the basic 3 year, 36K mile warranty. I'd be happy to help you make an appointment or follow up with your dealership!

UPDATE: had some time to look into about what's preventing my fuel door from opening. Iv'e got 15K on the clock now and this is the fist time that I've experienced it sticking. Well...the process of opening and closing has made the fuel door seem really loose and the hinge that is attached to the inner side of the door has worked it's way up and out of the correct position, this is why it's loose too. If I close the door in this position, it will latch, however it is sitting too high, therefore when I engage the actuator it will not lift high enough, in fact it gets stuck on the latch to properly release the fuel door. This is why I have had to press against the door when it's stuck and re-adjust it to allow it to open.
The good news is that it is an easy fix. When you open your fuel door next time, open it all the way and reach inside the compartment and apply pressure to the hinge that is attached to the door itself, make sure it seats completely down into it's correct position before closing it, after you do this, the door will not seem quite as loose and you will feel the actuator engage the latch when you close it and because it is now setting lower as well as, in the correct position it will pop open the way it was designed to do. In fact, it will open with more pressure too.
Next, I plan on going to the dealer to check and see if other new Durango's have the problem with the loose fuel door, also check to see it if your's does too. Either way... check back with this thread and let me know. If this is not a design issue, then I may need a new fuel door. Hope this helps, thanks guys!

UPDATE: Had the dealer replace the faulty fuel door under warrenty. They had to remove the rear wheel, remove the fender liner and go up under the wheel well to access the fuel neck assembly and housing to replace the door. Took about 1 1/2 hours to do the repair, said it was only the second one they had done.

I have a 2017 R/T and had the same problem. The door would not open even when I pulled the emergency release. The problem is not in the release lever. It seems the spring is not strong enought to push the fuel door open. I had just had my dealer replace it, but the first time I tried it, it failed to open again. I got it open using the emergency pull and a plastic piece (no scratching). I then WD-40 it (flooded it) and it is working again temporarily. I think the spring is underdesigned. If anyone else has this problem we need to let FCA so a redesign.
