Question Tire Sizes - Wheel Sizes

So I used to put on tires while working through college (partying).

I understand what the sizes mean.

What I have a question about are the tires sized as follows:

35x12.50R20

What width of a rim do you need for this tire?

My stocks are 20x9...would that work?
If so, 2" leveling kit...here I come.

And links to comparisons on these sized tires would be awesome.

Yes, ideally you want your wheel to be 3" less in width than your tire, with an inch window in either direction being considered "in spec".

So a 9" wide wheel is fine for a 12.5" wide tire...

I used to hang with Monster Truck guys (9" lift 38" tires on 15" rims) you know the stuff guys did in the early 90's, and we never discussed the wheel size, only the tire size.

what do you think of this tire:

Lord I miss the days of being able to put a 35" or 37" tire on 15" wheels. I mean I like being able to stop better now with the larger calipers and all, but nothing looks better to me than all that rubber and sidewall!!!

Times change, now it's cool to stretch a black "rubber band" around a 24" wheel!!!

and about the TrXus tires, even though they've been out for a bit now, they are one of the few tires I don't personally know anybody with them. Although the couple of reviews I read were not very kind. Very aggressive tread though for a tire that's only marketed as an A/T...

i know on the 02-05 you can fit 35's with just a level, but a little Birdie told me that they won't fit because you have the coil IFS
could be wrong tho wont be the first time

I've driven a vehicle with 35s and a leveling kit, but it was a 2500 (no IFS).

I'll keep that in mind.
