For a good lopey idle you are going to want one with a tight lsa around a 113 and lower, but, being that you are an 03' you are semi limited to what you can put in due to tuning. The superchips wont run a cam on a 113 lsa. so you would need a way to bump the idle up. Talk to AF_HEMI he has a pretty aggressive cam in his 03'.

What type of truck do you have? RCSB or QC? 2wd or 4x4? Where do you want the power? Down low? Up top? Mid range?

here is mine, its a comp 268, its got a strong mid range, good top end and drives really good. Not sure how tuneable it is on an 03' though.

I just put a Crazy Jay cam in an 03 2500 5.7 4wd last weekend. It ran good off a Superchips.

As for cam parts and prices.

cam - 250 used on up to 500 new
(16) 6.1 springs - 65
6.1 push rods - 11
cam/crank bolt - 5
coolant - 20
engine oil/filter - 40
1 qrt of ATF4 - 7

If you are going to pull the heads then head gaskets and head bolts are another 100

If replacing exhaust gaskets thats another 20 plus new bolts.

While you have it apart, now would be the time to replace plug wires, plugs, hoses, belts, ECT.

If you are close I can help but Im in south GA.

Here is mine but i am custom tuned.

If you are interested in a 2004 PCM and engine harness so you can get better tuning. LMK. I may have mine coming up soon

Minimum is this list below. You can leave the heads on and change the springs on the block but you need a custom tool to do it. I have mine for sale if you find the need for it. Without it you will have to pull the heads and then have to buy head gaskets and head bolts. Then you will need a torque wrench. You will also need to rent the damper puller to pull the damper.

cam - 250 used on up to 500 new
(16) 6.1 springs - 65
6.1 push rods - 11
cam/crank bolt - 5
coolant - 20
engine oil/filter - 40
1 qrt of ATF4 - 7

Check this thread out if you have not already.

If you need help and can make it up here, I would help. If you are going to do it yourself then give 2 days minimum downtime and maybe 3. I can do it in about 8-10 hours but thats because I have done so many.

Crazy Jay sounded good but nothing like mine. The tighter the LSA the more lope but anything less than 113 and you get into custom tuning which costs a lot more. Mine is 112 LSA and I plan on going lower soon.
