Hey guys trying to decide between a 07 or an 08. Both are diesel's with the 07 being the 5.9 both are also 6 speed manuals. I will be using it to pull a #8000 trailer through Ky. and Tn.
This will be my 1st. diesel and I don't know much about the 2 different engines.
Would like any info pro or con, and also know which you would go with if you were me. Both have app. 100,000 miles and are priced very close to each other.

That 5.9 is bullet proof and the best years are the 05-07's. Stay away from that 6.7 in the 08.

 

06-08 Trucks are identical in every which way minus the differences of diesel engines. Every other aspect is the same.

As for the motors...I cannot say in regards to diesels, BUT I do know newer diesels are getting their ***** chopped off every year that passes by with emissions garbage.

 

Depends on if you want to do any modifications. Stock, you'll get better MPG from the 5.9L. If you're willing to do a DPF & EGR delete, you'll get better performance and MPG from the 6.7L vs a similarly modified 5.9L.
