Default OEM Hitch Removal Question

Howdy All..
I'm a new member to the forum.. Love Ram Trucks!!
I just purchased my second Ram, first was a 99 QC V-10. Had it for 8 years and it looked and ran like new when I sold it. Now I moved up to a CTD and so far love it..
I got this truck to pull my Trailer (10,000lbs loaded, TW 1200lbs) I'm concerned about the OEM receiver. I would like to put a putnam class V hitch on.
I was told that you have to cut the receiver off the hitch, is that correct? If so, how tough is this?
Anyone install a Putnam on their 2006?
Thanks All !

Default RE: OEM Hitch Removal Question

im not sure about changing the hitch
but id look at the reese towbeast 2 1/2" hitch
if you want to upgrade--i did the swap last year
on my ford , and i got the putnam 1st then
returned it for the reese--which was much heavier duty

Default RE: OEM Hitch Removal Question

I had to remove my hitch when I put on my roll pan, here is what I had to do. I had to loosen the bolys on my bed and remove the hich bolts that go into the frame. Once you do that you should be able to lift your bed approc 1-2 inches off the frame, which is plenty of room to slide the trailer hitch assembly off the frame. On a suck factor scale of 1 to 10 i'd give it an 8. Hope it helps.

Default RE: OEM Hitch Removal Question

Think all you have to do is cut the receiver part off of your rear crossmember/hitch combo. Putnam mounts in the same space. See this thread,

Post the results of your efforts
