The correct PBS TV show was MotorWeek in the Goss' Garage segment.

74,000 miles and mine is clean as a whistle. if yours is dirty you might have bigger problems than an inatke temp sensor. If your running K&N you might try a dry filter. on mine and my buddies turbo cars an oil filter is a big no no. even on the hemi ive found oil on the wrong side of the tube.

If dirt and oil is found on a sensor that is in the intake air stream my bet is the filter is the K&N type. K&N sure sounds good but it is a joke. the stock filter will flow more than enough for normal driving. if yo want more air flow just add more surface area, not dirt! Try the Walmart Fram over size truck filter for around $15 bucks. All air and no dirt. The filter is around 12" long and 6" in diameter. Do the math for the increased surface area. One other thought for the guys looking for easy horsepower- marketing is everything....

Sure the sensor replacement cost is cheap. My point is what is the potential cost of damage to the engine? If the sensor is oily or dirty, would that same air borne crap flow thru the intake, TB, thru the valves, and into the combustion chamber? Isn't the air filter to 'filter the dirt out', and prevent dirt from passing into the engine? What was your point about the $8 quick fix? Hold a paper element filter and a K&N type up to the sun or a light and decide which you think would offer the best filtration.

That's the biggest point of this guys. It's just a simple Intake Air Temp sensor, just replace it, it's not $275 either.Get the whole MAF crap out of your head, it is totally different. MAF cars also have IAT's. If your IAT is that dirty you have to find out why, and, like stated, it could be the fancy red oil soaked air filter. And sorry, but just by cleaning it will not effect mileage that much unless it had an inch of crap on it, in which case you have much bigger problems coming. Hell, AirRams Powerwire alters the temp on that thing by 20 degrees and it doesn't alter mpg that much. Check your TB and make sure it isn't coked up as well. Cleaning that and running some Sea-foam would help more.
