UPDATE TO THIS THREAD PLEASE READ!!!

THIS WAS FIXED 2 WEEKS AGO, IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM CAUSING THE LOUD CLUNK/RATTLE. THEY REPLACED IT AND WALA, ITS AS SILENT AS A MOUSE WITH A HEMI IN ITS LITTLE PANTS LOL
SO IF YOU HAVE FRONT END NOISE ON A RAM PICKUP, PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE 7 PAGE THREAD.
ONE OF THE GUYS ON THIS FORUM PRINTED THIS ENTIRE THREAD OUT BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY
FIX HIS TRUCK (WHEN IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY). WHAT A FANTASTIC DEAL HUH?



Hello Guys and Gals.

I need your help badly. I have this issue that is driving me bonkers. I have a 2005 Ram Quad Cab with the four wheel drive. Mint condition with 16,000 miles on it is all . Last year I started to hear a clunking sound coming from the front endwhen on a gravel road or just little wash board type bumps. Being the truck is still under warranty I brought it to the dealer and they replaced the upper and lower ball joints and also the lower control arms. I still have the same issue and they tell me I will have to wait until it gets worse for them to track it down. The service adviser and the service manager admit they can both hear it as plain as day and cant figure it out. I test drove a 2005 they had on there lot and it was a quite as a mouse. So I am hoping more than anything one of you have seen or heard of this and can point me in the right direction.


Thingsthe dealer has done to try to fix the issuewith ZERO luck,

Tookfront shocks off to make sure that was not the issue, Still made the noise with no shocks installed

Checked hood mounts

Tightened cross member and torsion bar bolts

Replaced all sway bar bushings

Took both step bars off

Replaced the upper and lower ball Joints

Replaced the lower control arms.

Installed factory tires and wheels

And many more things they havent told me Im sure
They say they went over the entire front end with a fine tooth comb, had the truck for a week too.


ANY IDEAS WHAT TO DO? Brand new truck still and sounds like it’s going to fall apart when on a bumpy surface

try the tie rod ends

 

Turn your hood stops up about 1/4" I just did that to my 2005 two wheel drive and it seems that it took care of it.You can check for the noise buy pushing down on your hood from the side of the hood fast and you should hear the knock sound. That is how I found the noise with some help.

 

Yeah the tie rod ends, I will ask the dealer tomorrow
ALso the hood has ZERO play, looked at that a while back too. Please keep the ideas coming so I have something to give to the dealer LOL

 

Mine does the same thing its really annoying.

 

yeqh I cant stand it anymore, for a new truck like this it should be able to be fixed, what year is yours and when did you start hearing it??

 

03 i heard it awhile after getting new shocks and cranking the Tb's so it kinda my fault but i checked all the joints and everythings tight so it might be the upper bushings on the front shocks might be misaligned or something.

 

Well if you ever figure it out please let me know, I am willing to pay some one with the idea that works LOL

 

Look I thought my hod had no play all so. But when the body flexes the hood is knocking on the fender. Just push down on the side of your hood with some pressure and you will hear the knock. It will not hurt to try.

 

how would i fix it if it is the hood.
