Oh ya and that was the other sub issue and that was the voltage was too high as well, did enjoy the extra pep though.

 

I have to say that after reading this entire thread....well lets just say I was a little pissed off.
Like others....I went and purchased a new bulb and my drivers side headlight was still out.
So I found this thread and thought I was out of luck and some big bucks.
JUst for the heck if it....I have an Edge Juice so I first check to see if it displayed any codes....then I told it to reset all coded.
When I started the truck up and turned on the headlights.....problem was solved.
Hopefully someone else can be as lucky!

 

Well at least these Rams look good. Having owned Ford for years, I will never own another Dodge product. I didn't spend 800.00 in repairs over a 100,000 mile ownership! i will try to run a jumper from my left low beam to the right....

 

Where is this Tim sensor on the Truck? I'm having identical concerns.

 

TIPM = Totally Integrated Powertrain Module
In laymens terms, it's a fuse box that has electronically controlled relays. It's a computer board rather than mechanical relays.

It's the fuse box that is under your hood. The computer board it underneath all the fuses.


BigblueMega..2 posts above...Not a smart idea to jump the wires in a Canbus operated system. You'll likely cause more harm than what you have right now.

 

You are correct about jumping. looking around fir a used TIPM..... very frustrating to spend this kind of money over the lack of a fuse. haven't had it "professionally" diagnosed but pretty sure i am on the right track.

 

Unfortunately you cannot just install a used tipm. It must be new. You could install a new one yourself, but it needs to be "re-configured" by a dealer before you can start or drive your truck. So if you install it yourself, it'll need to be towed to the dealer so they can program it to your bin information. The 2006 tipms had problems with the directionals when towing and there was a revision done, therfore, your 2006 tipmis fairly expensive to buy. They cost ~$600 and the dealer may charge you $1-150 to install and program it to your truck. You'll also get a 1yr/12kmi warranty with it.
They will require a diagnostic fee prior to installing one and I suggest you pay it and not bypass it. Reason is because you probably have Active Codes that are re-occuring and not just stored. This means there are current issue's that must be resolved before you can just re-install a new tipm or else the same issue will happen. You could have a short...etc
All-in-all figure on spending $1000 on this issue. If it's not worth it to spend that kind of money, trade your truck in the day time as dealers never check stuff like that...hahaha It's like checking to see if the A/C works in the winter...just dont happen.

You might be able to install a used one, but you'll likely have issue's as well. All tipm's need to be programmed to communicate with your pcm and instrument cluster. Now, the instrument cluster is the same way in regards to installing a used one. You can install a new one yourself and it will automatically program, but installing a used one may cause problems with functionality as it has already done it's auto programming with the previous tipm and pcm.

One last thing...2006 is 2006. Although 2006-2008 Rams are identical in looks and fitment in everything, the programming of the tipm/cluster/pcm modules is different within those years, although I'm pretty sure 2007/08 are the same??? 2006 is not.

 

Thank you for that great info. I found a used one out of a 20k mile 06 for $200. in you opinion, would the dealer attempt to reprogram it on my truck. i was going to trade the ruck this summer and hate to waste 10% of its value into a new TIPM. what a terie design.....

 

You could try to do that but I cannot say for sure it'll work or the dealer would even do it???
Also, remember what I said about having active codes... Hopefully the tipm will solve your problems, but there could be other issue's beside's that. If there are other issue's after you have a new tipm installed, it'll cause the same problem. That'll cost you prob $150, or you can hope for the best with a used one. Used might be wirth the shot. The only thing that kinda scares me about the 06 tipm is that there were many problems within the tipm programming of the '06's as stated in previous post.

One more thing to realize. If you went to the dealer, they could read your codes, attempt to re-configure your current tipm to try and solve the problem. TIPM's can only be re-configured 4x's I believe before they are no good. Meaning their internal programming times out and no longer functions. Now we can really talk about the terrible design!

 

Hi, I have a 2007 Dodge 1500 and for the past month I've been having the same issues with my passenger side headlight burning out, only works on dim. I replaced 3 bulbs before someone at the auto part store suggested it was my connector. I went to the dealership, bought a connector and had it put on by my father. My lights worked on dim only and only for 24 hours before the passenger light went out again. I replaced the bulb, AGAIN and it worked...for 24 hours. I spent hours googling the issue, realized it was my TIPM and took my truck to the dealership today. The dealership offered to look at it for $130 and if it is the TIPM, they say they can't reset it as I requested and it will be $800 plus labor to replace it. With that being said, I left and called the 800 # in my owners manual to find out why the TIPM hasn't been recalled since this seems to be a known issue. I was transferred to a "service tech specialist" and was advised that just because I found complaints about the TIPM on google didn't mean it was justified to be a recall and would have to be a known issue on dodge's website. I explained that I was having a difficult time understanding why I should pay $800 plus to replace a part that is a known issue for these model trucks and has nothing to do with the normal wear and tear on the truck. The specialist said she would contact my local dealership and see if she can assist me with a discount. I should be receiving a call back tomorrow and unless my discount is 100% off, I'm going to keep escalating this until I see it recalled. BTW, I'm not the type that expects something for free however in this case, I don't think it's "normal" to have to spend that kind of money to get my headlight to work and from what I've read, there are plenty of reports that the TIPM's for the 06-08 dodge trucks aren't any good. I also noticed on another forum that the durango did have a recall for the TIPM. I would appreciate if all of you out there with TIPM issues please contact Dodge and let them know so we can get a recall!
