Default Hesitation?

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've got a 2004 Ram with the 5.7. At low cruising RPM's (1100-1500) I'm getting what feels like a hesitation, RPM's drop a few hundred, feels like you've hit the brakes or got completely off the gas. Only while driving at these RPM's. Idles smooth, no hesitation if I stomp on it, no hesitation with the cruise on or driving at highway speeds/RPM's. It will do it with the cruise on at the 1100-1500 RPM range going 35-45 mph. Feels kinda like the torque converter is locking and unlocking. No check engine lights. Any ideas before I start replacing/tearing up parts? Plugs are getting a little old, I'm praying it's not a transmission problem as it is in that RPM range where it feels like it might be wanting to down shift but then gives up. Thanks for any ideas.

if you have an overdrive button try running with it OFF and see if it still does it!

I have this exact problem, I mean I have been searching the internet and this decription is EXACTLY what is happening to me...I just put fresh plugs in it and thought it might be the plugs but now I am leaning toward the EGR...

bwheelersc, have you made any progress?

Through learning the truck I believe I have found that it is the mds kicking in and out. If in tow/haul mode the hesitation isn't there. I am saving for a turner so I can turn the mds off permanently. Hope this helps.

But being the OP hasnt logged on in two years I doubt it makes a difference now.....LOL
