Default '02 4.7 Temperature gauge climbs when truck is turned off.

Sometimes. The truck does NOT overheat. Temperature normally sits about mid to just before mid way on the gauge. It might move a little if I load the truck up and drive up to the casino in the mountains in the middle of summer.

Sometimes after extended driving when I shut the vehicle down the temperature gauge will slowly, slowly climb up towards the 3/4 point of the gauge, never any further, and then as the thing cools it'll come down. Other times it doesn't show a temperature rise at all when I shut the truck off.

After starting the truck the temperature falls to normal after a few seconds.

I've got a new water pump and thermostat on, though I need to pay some attention to the thermostat housing as it seeps fluid a bit. Think that may be a cause?

Engine temp increase after shut down is normal. With nothing cooling the motor, it will gain heat for a while. Engines have done that for decades.

Thanks guys. My previous vehicle was a ford taurus which never did that, so I was unsure.

Much appreciated!
