I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 5.7 lt that will not idle. It won't start unless u press on the gas. I had the check engine light checked and the codes pointed to the O2 sensors. I replaced the front two sensors but still no luck. I don't live close enough to a town that can check the codes for me that I can drive the truck too. My question is will the O2 sensor prevent the truck from starting? Is there something else the will make the O2 sensors to not work right? Also when the truck is on the exhast smells really lean. I have 90,000 miles on the truck
well the o2 sensors will make it run lean because they control how much fuel is entered into the combustion chamber, you can take back the front 2 sensors and get the back sensors and see if that clears things up, those things are like 80 a peice right??
I would look for a vacuum leak first. I'm not sure if your truck has drive by wire or not but if it doesn't I would check the iac and see if its working right. But a vacuum leak may cause lean 02 codes and will make the fuel trims very high.

The rear 02's shouldn't have much if any control over fuel trims.
oh it is drive by wire, and i was just throwin some info, my ford had an 02 sensor that went out and they couldent tell me wich one....so i drove around untill i could play the guessing game of wich of the 4 it was and my exhaust was real rich and idled crappy...but it was also a front 02 sensor....
