2007 dodge ram 5.7L hemi 4X4

I was looking around at options for my 30k maintenance even though I'm at 38k. I changed plugs, cleaned egr, changed rear end, transfter case and front diff fluids. I also see on a bit older hemi's (about 03's) people are changing the pcv valve at the 30k maint. I cannot find any info on the location and napa doesn't have one for the 07. Did dodge change something or is napa full of crap. Location, price, and should I change it please!!

 

Napa is full of crap. Most auto parts stores do not carry them so I'm not surprised. You can pick one up from the dealer normally, but they'll kill you on the price.

Location of the PCV valve should be to the passenger side of the throttle body. (thats how it is on my 04, could be different on your truck).

Do you need to change it? No. Would it help? Possiblily, but your truck won't seize up and die on you if you don't change it.

 

Yes you should change it b/c it helps keep sludge and deposits from forming.

 

On the ones I've changed, you can also do a little check to see if it's still in decent condition. Once you pull it out, if you shake it and hear a little rattle inside it- it's good to go. But if you know that the truck has had punctual oil changes and it never had a chance for sludge to form up on it, it should be in decent condition. If you're like me and just want to make sure with your own eyes that it's in good condition, pull it out and replace it anyway.

I bought mine for my 04 5.7L for only like 3 bucks at Checker/Oreilly. Not sure about the 07 though.

 

thanks, got one on the way, along with a new EGR valve, thought it was a good price. It would be nice if I could a exact location for a 07, I would guess the 06-08's are the same. Somebody please!!

 

No way! Are you serious? lol, if so then thats crazy. I was just in Schucks/Oreilly and they told me $30 plus tax for a new one plus a week for them to get it.

Even on their website here it's $30.

So the PCV valve is actually on the throttle body??

 

here is a procedure I found: The PCV valve (6) is located on the oil filler tube . Two locating tabs (2) are located on the side of the valve . These 2 tabs fit into a cam lock in the oil filler tube. An O-ring seals the valve to the filler tube.

1. Disconnect PCV line/hose by disconnecting rubber hose at PCV valve fitting.
2. Remove PCV valve at oil filler tube by rotating PCV valve downward (counter-clockwise) until locating tabs have been freed at cam lock . After tabs have cleared, pull valve straight out from filler tube. To prevent damage to PCV valve locating tabs, valve must be pointed downward for removal. Do not force valve from oil filler tube.
3. After valve is removed, check condition of valve O-ring .
