I have a similar problem. Please help. I just bought a used 2004 Dodge Stratus with about 46,000 miles on it. It sat for a year without being driven. (I bought it off of a nursing home, selling it for a dementia patient). They replaced the battery before I bought it. It will start right up, but will not stay started unless I give it gas. It used to die in idle, but, I put a liquid tune up and a fuel injector cleaner in my gas tank and that has helped. However, it will die almost immediately after I start it.

96 Ram 1500 5.2 won’t idle, and runs rough. Replaced everything ( O2 sensors, fuel temp sensors etc…) over the past 3 months, from timing chain to the ICV. I have disconnected the battery probably 20 times in the past 3 months to keep from burning the systems up while working on it. It starts, hard, but fast, then I have to feather it BIG time to keep it running. I let off the gas and it dies. ( I do not have the air cleaner on it ). I have tried to reset the computer via battery disconnect, cycling the ignition to the on position for 5 minutes etc….the battery holds a charge fine, but it is old and has been through heck. Any ideas would be helpful as I and my mechanic ( a damn good one ) are out of ideas.
thanks…Chris in Kihei!

1996 Dodge ram same issue
Thanks guys! It indeed was the battery ... thought I'd start there because it was the easiest. It wasn't dead but I had just unhooked it mount some off-road lights. The battery was getting old so I went ahead and replaced it. I started the truck, kept my foot on the brake and RPM's up. Got out of the driveway and got going about 60 mph and then let it coast. The RPM's dropped and it died but I put it in neutral and started it again while coasting. Took it up to about 60 and did it again. This time the RPM's dropped but not to zero. Ended up coasting at an appropiate RPM and after that it has run just fine!
On another note: Just want to say thanks for all the times (almost 2 yrs now) I have come to this forum for advice and repair info without ever registering and asking a question. This time I was at a complete loss and I registered ... so glad I did! Thanks again all.
