Default trans slipping

I have an 03ram 1500. The trans slips with a load in the back. Im changing trans fluid cause its dirty. Howany quarts does it take n is there a thicker trans fluid i van put in. Like a full synthetic ? I no about lucus . But is that all or can i put so.ethic diff on to help it not slip? Trans feels great when its cold but once it warms up it some times struhgles shifting through the gears and slowly shifts from obey gear to the next. Any sugg ?

Sounds like your Torque converter might be the problem... I would only suggest that you use Mopar Trans Fluids as specified in the owners manual... Other trans fluids don't seem to work very nicely with our trucks.

How much weight are you putting in the back?

What engine do you have?

You could always change the fluid and filter to see what happens. Use only ATF+4.

after you clean the trans. add this to your*chrysler*trans. an external fluid filter
1. go to auto-zone. get 2210, its called a power steering filter, but it is for transs to. it is for 3/8 tubing. by (magna-fine) be sure to use high pressure hose. Reff:http://www.magnafilter.com.au/magna-fine.html*
2. for other sizes wix 58964 5/16 tube size reff:http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlook...sionfilter.asp

Slipping is 99% due to your clutches being worn out. The clutches as they are being slipped overheat, breakdown and contaminate the oil. I'm guessing the oil smells bad too right? If the oil was still nice I would say the torque convertor was hurting but I highly doubt it.
Tranny oil rarely get's "dirty" unless you have a problem, it remains clear and minty fresh for literally thousands of miles.

No you just need new clutches and a flush most likely. CHanging clutches is pretty much a DIY job, I've done it on a few trannys. You'll know as soon as you look at the clutches if they're burnt up.

If you know what you are doing it can be a DIY job but thats a lot of work plus if he is not sure how change the clutch plates he should not try it.
