Everytime I start up, I just move the shifter through the gears slowly, then back up to reverse, then back to drive and it usually takes right off.
That's some hinky crap for throwing down $23k on a low, low mileage (24k) 2005!

Somwhere in another post it was stated that this problem of the transmission slipping after extended off time is somewhat normal. That people that have this problem would have to live with it. I myself do not find it normal whatsoever. If I would want to sell my truck with this problem I'm not sure the value would be there.
I would say this is a defect that should be repaired by Chrysler.

iam NOT a trans expert but. i think some chrysler trans have a converter drain trouble. but dont know the fix. my guess is the valve body, may be a spool. check out trans-go. here is my standard trans post, if you have seen it be for sorry this is the newest ver.
use ONLY steel brake lines. copper WILL break off. the factory uses steel for a reason!!!! mopar most use 3/8 dia tube, but some might be 5/16. i think most have the fluid in at the rear left side. here is an EXTERANL filter, i found. have one on my 01 dak. my idea is when you put a new filter in side this one will help from having to do the inside one as often.*
the old auto zone 2210 magenfine filter is no longer available at auto zone. BUT i did find the same thing as JX-160 brand-- ATP. at a real parts house uses 3/8" tube. a JX-150 for 5/16 tube. ONLY use high pressure hose. If you must. SAE J1019 217 psi working. NOT fuel hose for a carb engine.

Had my tranny serviced today. Bought filters from Mopar but guy at trans shop says it's made by Filtron which he stocks for 40 bucks cheaper. Know he is right cause I saw Filtron stamped on filter. To soon to tell if problem is fixed. Guy said many things could cause drainback but should only take about 8 seconds for torque converter to pump up. I'm seeing where people are having the same issue with the heavy duty trans so we wait and see.

My Ram 1500 has the same issues as y'all have described... can anyone tell me the correct Dodge part numbers for the filters and what kind of fluid have y'all found to be the best to use after changing the filters?

I haven't had any more problems since trans service. The check valve is in the screw on filter and I think that's where my problem was.

My 2000 1500 has done that once before, after sitting for several days it takes a long time to engage when placed in D or R. I don't remember how long afterwards the transmission went, "f*&k you, you're walking". Don't know if the two were related. Turned out it was the main shift drum (what I was told by the shop) that had failed. Shortly more than a year later, the reverse drum failed, so back to the shop for another rebuild. Now it's starting the same delayed engagement trick, and I'm concerned. I do NOT want to rebuild this stupid thing for the third time in less than 20k miles! I'm going to replace the fluid and filter with OEM parts next Wed., will advise if silliness stops.

Yeah I Had the same issue. Changed solenoid pack, new filters. It went away for a while but it's back now. I find in cold weather it will be delayed on engagement. I hope there is something that will permanently fix it.
