manual trans swap
hey, this may have been posted about but i did a search and could just find 2nd gen stuff, i have a 07 rcsb 1500 4x4 hemi and i think my trans is starting to slip a bit on heavy downshifts, just wondering what will all be needed to do a manual trans swap? i figure if i can find a 2500 hemi (2006-2008) grab the trans, peddal assembly and the pcm that should work? will the manual trans from a 2500 fit between the engine and transfercase on my truck? need some help! i an a mechanic and will do it all my self
thanks

I cannot find any information on the dimensions of the G56 transmission vrs. the rfe545 auto. I would assume you will need the crossmember and transmission mounts to go along with it though.
If you do get this done please post back as I would love to do the same swap. I am currently replacing my engine with a Mopar reman, and a new trans would be nice.

G56 is not a default tranamisson for hemi 2500 6speeds...thiers two versions of a getrag that ae also in use, as much as I hate automatics, its more cost effective to rebuild a automatic....
finding a used ctd 6 speed man or the 6speed man in my 2500 is a rare rare rare find as us owners who curse dodge automatics are keeping are 6 speed nanuals...
now a 6 sp man is not built for drag racing, nascar racing but is fun to drive...
chrysler needs to re offer a hemi 6 sp manual transmisson...

Youi'll need the tranny from the 2500, as the pilot bearing for the ctd is a different setup, unless you're willing to get machining done. the end of the 2500 5-7 uses a needle bearing for the pilot and the ctd is a sealed ball bearing affair. You may be better is you can find a donor truck, or just get the tranny rebuilt and call it good.

I just did an AT to MT (G56) swap earlier this year. Best mod I ever did to my truck. Its a whole new truck that's getting me (at least 1x) 22 mpg over 718 miles (diesel), and 1x 21.5 mpg over 635 miles and averaging 18.5 combined city/hiway on 3 tanks while driving "normal". If I roll into it then it drops into the mid 17's.
I do know this...
1) when you cut he hole in the floorboard, cut about 1/4" outside of the cut-out hump provided. I cut right along the outer edge and am within 1/8" of the trans in one corner.
2) The cross-member will work for both the AT & MT provided it is the 3 slot design (which it should be).
3) If your a 4x4, you'll need to swap the input shaft to a 29 spline shaft. Also if your an electric shift t-case your best bet is to swap over to a MT shift t-case.
4) Clutch & Brake pedals, just need the pedals & not the whole assembly, they pop in real easily, maybe 15~30 minutes depending on how much trouble the bushings give you. Use new bushings & put a graphite lube on them.
5) Programming... not sure who you would use to do the MT update, contact the stealer 1st to see if they can do it on your truck. I used a Smarty programmer for my ram and it was a breeze. Besides the cost of the programmer, the program was $120 from Smarty.
Expect a 2~3 mpg bump, whole new truck and to fall in love with your truck all over again.
