Default 2003 with the V10, want MPG advice

First off, NO HATERS. I knew this truck was a gas hog and I wanted him anyway. His name is Juggernaut. A V10 will never get the fuel mileage of a four cylinder, I know this full well. But I need a truck that can haul a 12,000 lb. trailer or more at a whim, and at a moments notice. My question to you fans out there is, what can I do to increase efficiency? Right now, the computer averages 9.3 MPG's. Again, I knew this going in, so NO FLAMERS. But, are there things I can do to help this? First on my list is a good reprogrammer, as mine was given the Death Flash. I have upgraded the exhaust already. Next is either an NV5600 or a G56 because the trans has 180,000 miles on it. So, friends of the last Big Block, what do you think?

A good air intake will help.

Dunno if anyone makes a cam for this off the shelf, if not a custom torque cam might help.

Thanks for the intake and cam advice. I had a hard time finding aftermarket support for the cam though.

Good tune up, free flowing exhaust, less restrictive intake, tuner, smaller tires.

In that order? New engine, free flowing exhaust with upgraded muffler, without tuner, stock tires......

For one thing, forget the computer. Calculate the mileage correctly (the news won't be good). Tune it up and drive with a feather-foot. Cams, intakes, exhaust (especially the cam) will have a break-even point far in the future.
