Default 2004 Ram 1500 QC 4x4 - nv3500 or nv4500?

I am the new owner of a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4x4 with the 5-spd manual. Overall the truck is in great shape, but it has 2 small issues that I'd like to fix. I found the excellent how-to for fixing wiring problems going to the rear doors. However, right now I'm more interested in fixing the backup lights. The bulbs are fine and replacing them didn't help anything. I found the thread that talked about replacing the backup lamp switch on the transmission. When I look up the part online, there are 2 different parts-- one for the NV3500 and one for the NV4500. I couldn't find a definitive answer to tell which one I have in my truck.

So the question is: How do I find out if my truck has the NV3500 or the NV4500?
- Did the NV3500 only go in the 1500 and the NV4500 in the 2500 and larger?
- Can I figure it out from the VIN or a sticker somewhere on the truck?
- Do I have to crawl under the truck and look for "NV3500" stamped on side of the transmission?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Take the vin or truck to a local Dodge dealer and let them run the RIN and tell you from what is called a "build sheet".

Or you can email Dodge and find out also

Yes, if you e-mail Dodge.. they will e-mail the complete list of everything installed on your truck at the factory...

I received mine in 2 days.

Yep, I suggest anyone who purchases used obtain the build sheet so you know exactly what that truck left the factory with. You used to be able to ask for it on the Dodge website. With all the ownership changes I dunno if you still can or not. Regardless, any dealer can print it for you...

I found it! My truck has the NV3500.

http://www.ramtrucks.com/webselfservice/ram/index.html

Select "Equipment Listing" under the "YOUR VEHICLE" section.
Then enter your VIN and get your build sheet, which you can save off as a PDF.
The site also lets you search for Recalls on your truck.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. They helped me figure out where/how to search for the information.

Tom
