Default this damn 05!

So I have an 05 1500, 4.7 4x2. Bought it almost a year ago and a few months into having it, I started having really bad overheating problems. Long story short I dropped $1800 into it due to a misfire in cyl 8 with a warped head. Not to mention I had a horrendous amount of yellow sludge in my oil reservoir. Mechanic did his part. That was about 2-3 months ago. Well today while enjoying traffic, I noticed on the engine temp cluster, it started getting closer to the middle. Got home installed some HID's and started the truck to see how they looked and noticed my exhaust had some smoke coming from it that had a little funk to it, not a thick white smoke, but a little. Coolant level was good, checked the reservoir and there was a small level of yellow sludge again? Any suggestions? I'm extremely new to this forum so thanks in advance!

What reservoir did you check? Do you mean the filler neck? If the coolant has reservoir has sludge in it that isn't good. Do you use synthetic oil and let it come up to temp? Normal spot on the gauge (at least in mine) is pretty much standing straight up in the middle.

sorry for the late reply, im talking about where you add the oil at. you take the cap off and theres this little thing you can take out. replaced fan clutch the other day, now it over heats while at highway speeds too. Pulled thermo which I just replaced a couple months ago, did the boil test and it only opened about 1/8 inch at a rapid boil. is that normal or is that faulty also?

I have an 03 that I just had the heads done. I can tell you what I know.
1. That crappy looking sludge in your oil fill cap is fairly normal, especially if you drive fairly short distances, only thing you can do is keep you oil changed.
2. Are you having to add ANY coolant at all?
3. Have you changed your thermostat?
4. Have you changed your water pump?
5. Have you changed your pcv valve?

Shouldnt have to add any coolant anywhere unless it leaks out. Did you have both heads done?
