Truck starts and then stalls after 2 sec
Hi,
I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 sport, 5.9L.
The truck starts no problem but stalls 2 seconds later. I try pumping the throttle but it still stalls.
I had two trouble codes. P0420, P1494
I replaced the Leak Detection Pump, IAC, Cleaned the throttle body and also replaced vacuum lines.
The plugs, cap, wires and rotor have also been replaced. Not sure what else could be causing this problem.
I tested the fuel pressure at the rail and had 42psi with the key in the run position. When I started the truck the pressure went up to 46psi. The truck stalled after 2 seconds but the pressure remained around 44psi.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?

0420 = bad cat or bad rear 02 sensor are my first guess
1494 = evap related....solenoid, hose obstruction, cracks in the system, etc.
Of the things you checked so far, I don't believe any of them are related to these dtc's. Without my manual in front of me it's hard to steer you in the right direction as to where to start. Hopefully what little I've provided helps you get started. In a few days when I return home I'll revisit this thread and see where I can help, I'll have a manual in front of me by then.
Good luck.

I get in my 04 ram 1500 with a 5.7 HEMI and it starts right up. Drive it fo a hour or so and when I go to start it up, it wants to start but takes a few try's before it starts running. If I run into the store it will stall and I have to go through the starting process again. My mechanic replaced the Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid, but it still acting up. Fuel pump is OK.
