So all these years I've been running a Taurus efan with a Hayden 3647 dual speed ccontroller (although I only use low speed) with a 200 amp relay to carry the load. I have mine wired where when the key comes on, so does the fan. The other day my controller went out and it started to get warm. Some quick troubleshooting lead to the controller being bad. But as I was thinking of replacing the controller, I started to ask myself why am I even using this controller at all when with a 200a relay mounted on the frame under it, why not just run a switched 12v (trigger) wire to the relay? Problem solved and I saved I not only money but excess components and wires. Done deal.

Makes sense. Less components to fail.

Exactly. A relay coil only needs 500ma to energize anyway
