these motors don't like to run hot, first thing I did was put a napa 180 stat in part number 530080, next if it is running past the half mark, might be time to have the system backed flush. something is causing the fluid not to circulate

+1 on the 180 Tstat. Put one in my 05. Made a giant difference on the temp.

They don't like to run cold either. Moisture won't burn off as well and then you have sludge formation. The original stat is best, as it keeps optimal temp for the engine. Just need to fix whatever is causing the overheat.

The temp gauge won't stay on halfway, when its worked it goes just above half and then when you back off it drops to just under, I might swap the temp gauge sender. Thanks for the replies.

I am running a 190 stant in vegas. Truck came with a 195 even though people say they were 203's. My question is I got a 180 when I got the 190 because I was not sure! Will the 180 throw codes? I asked the dealership (SteveWhiteMotors) when I bought it and they said if was for "OFF-ROAD USE" but it SHOULD NOT cause any codes? Anyone been running one on the street in warmer climates and how does it act? My 190 runs at about 3/8ths of the gauge. The 203 I had in briefly ran at 1/2!

no codes with the 180 here, in CT temps do reach 100 out and even sitting in stop and go traffic with AC on, gauge comes close to the 1/2 way mark but never over.

180" is the way to go.. the stock 203' is because the hotter the engine the more fuel burns= less smog... but heat makes wear..
No codes will result.. only cooler temps..
I still passed smog in California with the 180' in.(one of the worst states of all on smog laws)
only regret I have is not doing it until 70,000.. I now have 270,000 on original driveline - rear end. doesn't burn a drop of oil never has... and of course no slug.
