What do you think it should/could be? What are you comparing to? What is your fuel economy? What size wheels/tires? What sort of driving. The more info you can provide, the less questions we have to ask.

Question

the truck is stock except for the cherrybomb exhaust I recently installed. the performance issue started about a yr ago when I notice it wouldn't pass on the highway as well and my fuel economy had dropped significantly from mid-20s to 14/16 mpg. when the truck was new it would easily roast the drive tires and now it just won't do it. I am the only owner and I am a mechanic by trade and performed all of the work that had ever been needed. (2 sets of shocks, water pump, timing, plugs, 1 frt wheel bearing, and new exhaust). Everything else in the truck was put there when it was built.

more than likely not. I was thinking along the lines of crap O2 sensors but somebody else's experience and somebody else's feedback and outcome would be appreciated.

4.7's don't like to be overheated. Good point.

It's never been hot. aside from the lack of fuel economy and performance it's the only issue I have ever had with it. I noticed lately it stumbles once in a while but more so when it's not fully warmed up. Recently taken while out delivering some yard furniture with it.
