Default Problems after 4 wheel drive

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. I got the truck a few weeks ago and I attempted to put it into four wheel drive. After the fact of doing that I have had it in 2 wheel drive. However, I can't seem to turn the car starts jerking as if the wheels aren't turning and it eventually stalls out. The same thing happens when I go in reverse so I can't back up much. The truck turns fine when I'm in four wheel drive but not when I'm in 2 wheel. Ive tried shifting back into 4 wheel drive and then to 2 wheel drive but nothing changes. When I turn there's a grinding and the truck begins to groan. Also the gas seems to run out faster. I don't know if it's stuck in two wheel drive, but any help or suggestions I would really appreciate

Sounds like it's stuck in 4x4.

How to I fix it though. I've tried putting it into 4 wheel and back into to 2 wheel but the problem keeps occurring. And on my dash it doesn't show 4x4.

If your 4x4 light is not lighting on the dash most likely the switch on the transfer case is bad.

Do this get in driver seat push in the odometer button on dash hold it in and then just turn ignition on no need to start truck and all the lights on dash will go through a check sequence, look for the 4x4 light to light up if it does again the switch on transfer case is bad. Cost about $30 to replace.

If 4x4 is stuck try rolling straight a few yards 5 mph and try to shift out of 4 wheel.
I have a 04 ram 4x4 and manual shift on the floor for the 4 wheel and that's how I disengage the 4x4 and engage the 4 wheel.

I would replace the switch soon so you will know when truck is in 4x4 even though you should know when its in 4x4. Only other suggestion is to remove the short drive shaft from the 4x4 to front hub and disable the 4x4. Its only I think 4 nuts/bolts and drive shaft should come out easy. Just mark so you can put back on the same way.

This would let you know if something is wrong in the 4x4 case!!

Someone correct me if im wrong in the removal
