Default Tranny Over temp light came on

Hi all

Out of the blue the red tranny over temp light came on, so I checked the fluid level which was on the low side. Topped it up with fluid. Drove a little while, the light flickered and then came back on permanently again.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Many Thanks

Since you don't mention service history, I'd try dropping the pan, change the filters and refill.

Does the trans fluid smell burnt. A slipping trans makes heat. Could simply be a bad sensor.

Well, if it came on with a cold start, it's obviously not overheated. I would find the location of the sensor and replace it.
