Default Radar Detector wiring

Hi all,

I have to believe this has been asked 1000 times. But I promise I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I have a 2005 SLT with overhead console. Wondering which color wire in the overhead harness is keyed power and which one is ground. Looking to tap them for a hard wired radar detector.

Also, any secrets to removing the console from the headliner to access the harness?

Thanks in advance!

Layth

I don't know what wire would do it. But you should be able to just use a volt meter on them to find a +12. If you turn the key off and there is no power then you have your hot lead!
For ground its usualy a black wire. Take the volt meter and check for little to no resistance to chassy ground (with key off) on the black wire and you should be ready to go!

I have an '05 SLT Hemi QC in which I installed a radar detector. I bought a radar detector power cord from Radio Shack and cut the end off and extended the wire to the fuse panel under the hood. A lot of work I know but what I wanted to mention is how I got the wire from the roof to the radar detector. I removed the piece of plastic that holds the sun visor near the overhead center console and drilled a hole in it just large enough to allow the wire to go through. It made a very neat and clean install. If anyone would like to see it, let me know and I will try to post a pic.

i have my radar detector mounted on the rear view mirror (hanging), i plan on hardwiring it to the rearview harness for the auto dim. the bracket was custom made from a guy on a 350z forum. it has not falling off yet not even after this!
