Default Tranny gear ratio(s)

Would someone be willing and or able to enlighten me as to what the gear ratios are for 1st through 5th gear, and reverse, on a '03 4.7 manual tranny?

Default RE: Tranny gear ratio(s)

It is best to look on the 2003 manual trans itself for a tag
but it is probably a 'Wide Ratio' and "Light Duty"
New Venture 3500 with the specs here:

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmi...v3500_spec.htm

otherwise see the collection of old posts below to see the specs of the various other manuals in Rams, especially the Getrag 238:
====

The 1500 will also gain a Getrag 6 speed manual, this is the model 238
used with the 3.7 V6 and 4.7 V8 (no manual offered with the 1500 Hemi)

1st - 4.23
2nd - 2.53
3rd - 1.67
4th - 1.23
5th - 1.00
6th - 0.79
Rev - 3.84Transmission:

September 1 is DC press kit day, and they are already revealing the
January 2007 6.7 liter Cummins for the pickups will be rated at 350 hp @
3000 rpm (it actually says 3013 rpm) and 650 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm. The 68RFE
will also be available at the same time.

Ready for the kicker?

The engine is de-rated for the *MANUAL* transmission - only 610 lb-ft. @
1400 rpm... the total opposite of the second-gens.

Engine is 408 cid, 6690cc. Bore and stroke is 4.21 x 4.88.

68RFE ratios:
1 - 3.231:1
2 - 1.837:1
3 - 1.410:1
4 - 1.000:1
5 - 0.816:1
6 - 0.625:1
R - 4.444:1

G56 carries over unchanged. Current 325/610 5.9 liter engine and 48RE
automatic end production in December, last orders will likely be
November 1st, give or take.

As previously announced, the 3500 chassis cab will be rated at 305/610
for both the G56 and the Aisin AS68RC automatic.

Aisin ratios:
1 - 3.74:1
2 - 1.96:1
3 - 1.34:1
4 - 1.00:1
5 - 0.77:1
6 - 0.63:1
R - 3.54:1

No changes to axle ratios... just the 3.73 and 4.10 diffs.

Any questions on any of the 2007 Rams, just ask... I have the kits already.

For those not aware, the venerable New Venture (now once again New
Process) NV5600 6 speed manual will be replaced sometime during the 2004
model year by the Mercedes G56. The two key aspects of the G56 are:

- lower overall weight thanks to an aluminum case (compared to the
incredibly heavy iron case of the NV5600)
- higher power input

The ratios of the new G56 are a tad lower than the 5600 as well - the
5600 number is first, then the G56:
1st - 5.63 - 6.29
2nd - 3.38 - 3.48
3rd - 2.04 - 2.10
4th - 1.39 - 1.38
5th - 1.00 - 1.00
6th - 0.73 - 0.79
Rev - 5.63 - 5.74
This new 6 speed will also replace the NV4500HD used with the Hemi in
the 2500, 3500, and Power Wagon models.

(concerning the manual transmissions used in early Dakotas)
Some of the 5-speeds are the AX-15's, which are on the weak side.
However, they share the same bellhousing bolt pattern with many other
transmissions made by Aisin-Warner. The stoutest of which is probably the
R-154 found in the late-80's to early 90's Toyota Supra turbos. They're FAT
transmissions, with a beefy cast iron mid plate that happens to fall very near
where the trans crossmember is in an A-body.

I'm mulling on that swap right now. The Dak bellhousing & flywheel are the way
to do that swap, as it's a near bolt in... once you have the space in the
trans tunnel. FWIW, the 4.7L and 5.7L v-8's have the same bolt pattern on the
back of the block, and even the 3.7L Jeep engine does too. The 6-speed behind
the Jeep Liberty turbo diesel looks interesting (also has the same bellhousing
bolt pattern), but I bet it's not a small trans, either.

Default RE: Tranny gear ratio(s)

Thanks helo.

HankL, I will eventually climb under to have a look, but it's a tad bit too chilly up here right now.
